Historical Information: This property has a long history linked to Girolamo Parenzi who came with his wife to Lucca where they bought villas and palazzos and the estate at Monsagrati. On the estate was built this villa of simple linear design, a classic example of a noble country house. When Girolamo’s niece Camilla Parenzi married Raffaele Mansi her dowry was the villa, which is now owned by Gerardo Mansi. In the summer of 1898 Giacomo Puccini stayed at the villa where he was inspired to write the first act of “Tosca”, performed a hundred years later in the villa gardens. In 1914 and 1921 the German poet Rudolf Borchardt stayed in the villa where he began to translate “The Divine Comedy” into Old German.
